Administration
Wheeler Community,
If last year is any indication, we are looking forward to an outstanding year here at Wheeler Schools! With the unwavering support of the Wheeler community, we have a great environment for students and staff. We are certainly blessed to live in such a committed and caring community, and each time I have the opportunity to share with potential employees, that is one of the first things I mention.
The first of August always brings excitement and expectations of another school year. Teachers begin coming in to prepare their classrooms, sports and band begin their practices, and the “buzz” of students up and down the hallways brings the building back to life.
To set the tone for the upcoming year, I would like to review and recognize some of the many accomplishments our students garnered this past year. Our band continued their streak, winning another UIL sweepstakes award for marching and concert band. This marks the third sweepstakes in four years. Along with the entire band, we had many individual students receive honors at contests and finished the year with gold medals for both a soloist and an ensemble at state competition. One Act Play advanced to the regional level garnering several individual awards along the way. The FFA finished another successful season with animals placing at major stock shows and state qualifying CDE judging teams. Our literary teams fared well at all levels; with the high school earning a district championship and a cx-debate team and prose participant qualifying for state appearances. In athletics, WHS qualified for the regional quarter-finals in both football and basketball. The boys’ basketball team clinched a district title for the first time in nine years. Track finished the season with a good showing at the regional meet and ended the season with two state qualifiers. Tennis produced a back-to-back district champion in singles. And last, but certainly not least, the district raised test scores across the board for another year.
With that being said, WISD looks to improve and to continue to promote, “What’s Your Plan?” and “The Mustang Way!” for our students. We will push students to begin thinking about their future, to set and to attain goals, and to become productive citizens within our community. The overall goal of our staff is to serve the children we receive each and every day.
In conclusion, I would invite everyone to follow us on Facebook at Wheeler ISD ISD, visit our website , or join our ENotes system for updates. As always, we welcome parents and community members to take an active role in the education of our youth. This is “your” school.
We look forward to a Great Year!
Sincerely,
Bryan Markham
